Message from Director, NIT Patna; Chairman, CSAB 2016, Co-Chairman, JoSAA 2016

Heartiest congratulation and greetings to all the candidates of JEE (Main) 2016 and invite all of them to participate in the JoSAA-2016 Seat Allocation Process. I want to highlight the important changes in the seat allocation process for the admission to NITs, IIITs and other Government Funded Technical Institutes (other-GFTIs) as compared to that of the previous year.

This is the second time in sequence, admission to NITs, IIITs and GFTIs (in short NIT + System) will be done along with IITs and ISM (in short IIT + System) through a common portal of JoSAA (Joint Seat Allocation Authority) that is

This year 11,28,636 students have appeared for JEE (Main) 2016 and 1,98,228 students qualified for JEE (Advance) 2016. Our endeavor has been to make the seat allocation process to all the participating Institutes (NIT + Systems and IIT + Systems) as candidate friendly as possible so as to reduce the anxiety and inconvenience associated with the admissions. This year also the Seat Allocation Process will be online like previous years but with some modifications as compared to previous years.

It would involve four or more rounds of seat allocation with no option for spot round. As this year also the counselling is common for both NIT + System and IIT + System, there are some specific changes which the candidates must carefully observe.

  1. One time opportunity for online Registration and choice filling for all the programmes under NITs, IIITs, other GFTIs, IITs and ISM.
  2. From the first round of counselling, candidates will have options of freeze, float and slide. Except in the last round of seat allocation, a candidate can change from float to slide/freeze and slide to freeze by reporting at a reporting center. In case of freeze, the candidate will not be considered for next round of counselling. For float and slide option, they will be considered for further round of counselling.
  3. A candidate, who has already accepted a seat allotted by JoSAA 2016, can withdraw the seat by reporting at a reporting center before the last round of seat allocation.
  4. In case a candidate is allocated a seat in NIT + System, he/she has to report in Reporting Centre for NIT + System OR if he/she is allocated a seat in IIT + System, he/ she has to report in Reporting Centres of IIT + System.

In the subsequent round, if the candidate is allocated a seat in IITs+ System (In previous round he/she was allocated in NIT + System) he/she must has to report in IIT + Reporting Centres or vice versa. In case of non-reporting in the subsequent round, he/she will lose both the seats. The detail of seat allocation process (Business Rules) and other norms are available in the portal This web portal would highlight all the relevant information during entire counselling. All the candidates are requested to go through this web portal during entire counselling process that is registration, choice filling, seat allotment result etc. I am sure the JoSAA-2016 seat allocation process will provide a simple and efficient way of admission. I once again take this opportunity to wish all the aspiring candidates and other stakeholders the very best wishes from Chairman, CSAB-2016 and Co-chairman, JoSAA-2016.
