    About CSAB

The Ministry of Education, Government of India, took a policy decision in 2002 to conduct the All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE) annually, doing away with many of the large numbers of entrance examinations that were being conducted till then by various institutes in the country for admission to undergraduate degree programmes in the disciplines of Engineering/Technology and Architecture/Planning. This initiative has been widely accepted and appreciated. A Central Counselling Board (CCB) was constituted by the Govt. of India to coordinate admissions to UG degree programmes in engineering, technology, and architecture in respect of selected institutes till 2012. From 2013 onwards, CCB and AIEEE were renamed Central Seat Allocation Board (CSAB) and JEE (Main), respectively.

By order of the Ministry of Education, joint counselling for IITs/NITs/IIITs/GFTIs started from the academic session 2015-16, and Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) was created to execute the joint counselling for IITs and NITs/IIITs/GFTIs (Called NIT+ system) through Joint Admission Board (JAB) and Central Seat Allocation Board (CSAB), respectively. JoSAA-2022 will jointly admit candidates in the first year of Engineering/Technology and Architecture/Planning Programs of all IITs (23 IITs), NITs (31 NITs), IIITs (26 IIITs), IIEST Shibpur, and a few Government Funded Institutes (GFTIs) (list displayed on the website: https://josaa.nic.in) based on their rank in JEE-2022 and category, through a centralized seat allocation procedure, for the academic session 2022-23. At the end of JoSAA-2022 counselling, vacant seats of NIT+ system, if any, are filled through CSAB-Special Rounds (https://csab.nic.in). In addition, based on the JEE (Main) rank, a separate CSAB-Supernumerary rounds will also be conducted by CSAB (https://csab.nic.in) for admission to supernumerary seats for Union Territories of Andaman and Nicobar, Lakshadweep, Daman and Diu, and Dadra and Nagar Haveli in selected NITs. Further, CSAB-NEUT rounds will be conducted by CSAB (https://csab.nic.in) for allocation of seats under the scheme of “Reservation of seats in Degree Level Technical Courses for States / UTs lacking such facilities in the AICTE-approved institutions” to candidates of North-East states and Union Territories.
